Overview
Our private Dambulla Cave Temple tour is an easy half-day trip to one of the most beautiful sacred sites in Sri Lanka. Your English-speaking driver picks you up from your hotel in Sigiriya, Dambulla or Habarana at 7:00 or 8:00 am, while it is still cool, and waits for you while you explore.
The price covers your private transport and waiting time: US$35 for 1 to 3 people in a car, or US$50 for 4 to 7 people in a van. Entrance tickets are extra.
The Dambulla temple caves
High on a rock above the town, five caves have been used as shrines for more than 2,000 years. Inside are more than 150 statues of the Buddha, kings and gods, and ceilings covered with colourful paintings. The Dambulla temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and still a working monastery. Dambulla Golden Temple
At the foot of the rock stands the Dambulla Golden Temple, with its giant golden Buddha and a small museum. From here a stone path climbs for about 20 minutes to the caves, with views over the forest as far as Sigiriya Rock.
