Overview
Our private Yala safari in Sri Lanka takes you into the country’s most famous national park in your own 4×4 jeep, with hotel pickup from Tissamaharama, Kirinda and the Yala area. Just your group, up to six people, with an experienced safari driver who knows the tracks, the water holes and where the leopards have been seen lately. Yala safari booking takes a couple of minutes online or on WhatsApp.
Choose a morning Yala safari from about 6:00 to 11:30 am, when leopards and sloth bears are most active, an afternoon Yala safari from about 2:00 to 6:00 pm, with golden light over the lagoons, or a full-day Yala safari from about 6:00 am to 6:00 pm for the best chance of leopards. A half-day Yala safari costs US$60 per jeep and a full-day Yala safari costs US$120 per jeep, including a meal and beverages, both for 1 to 6 people. Yala National Park entrance tickets are not included and are paid at the gate on the day.

Why book your Yala safari with NH Lanka
Looking for a reliable Yala safari Sri Lanka operator? NH Lanka Holidays is a licensed, Sri Lankan-owned tour operator based in Negombo. Every Yala safari we run is private, with clear prices per jeep and no hidden extras: you only pay the park entrance tickets at the gate.
What you can see on a Yala safari in Sri Lanka
Yala has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world, alongside herds of elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, water buffalo, spotted deer and more than 200 species of birds. No one can promise a leopard, but the dry months from February to July usually bring the best sightings. Read more in our Yala National Park guide.
Good to know before you book
Yala’s main block usually closes for part of September and early October. If your dates fall in that period, we will suggest Udawalawe or Bundala instead. Not staying near Yala? Book our Yala safari from Colombo day tour, or ask about a night near the park or at a safari camp.
