Wild Sri Lanka
Private Safaris, Matched to the Season
For a small island, Sri Lanka is remarkably wild. Yala has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world, Udawalawe and Minneriya are home to large herds of wild elephants, and blue whales feed off the south and east coasts. Our private safari tours in Sri Lanka and tailor-made Sri Lanka safari packages help you see the best of it.
Every Sri Lanka safari tour is private: your own jeep, an experienced local tracker and a plan built around the right park for the season. We pick you up from your hotel near the park, or combine your safari with a day trip from Colombo, Negombo or Kandy. No tracker can promise a sighting, but picking the right park for the month tips the odds firmly in your favour.

Good to know
Before You Go: Safari Tips
01
Early starts, best light
Morning safaris start around 5:30 am, when animals are most active; afternoon safaris run until the park closes at sunset.
02
Pack smart
Khaki or olive layers, a wide-brimmed hat and a light jacket for chilly dawn drives. A zoom lens is worth its weight; bottled water is on us.
03
Wildlife first
Our trackers never chase or crowd animals, and we leave nothing behind but tyre tracks. A quiet, patient jeep sees the most.
04
Clear, upfront prices
Your quote lists the jeep, tracker, park tickets and transfers separately, so you know exactly what is included.
Questions
Sri Lanka Safari Tours – FAQs
Which is the best safari in Sri Lanka?
It depends on what you want to see. Yala is the most famous park for leopards, Wilpattu offers quieter leopard and sloth bear safaris, Udawalawe is the most reliable for wild elephants, and Minneriya is famous for “The Gathering” of elephants from July to October.
What is the best month for a safari in Sri Lanka?
There is a good safari every month. Yala and Wilpattu are at their best from February to July, Minneriya from July to October, and Udawalawe is good all year. For whales, choose Mirissa from November to April or Trincomalee from March to August.
How much does a Sri Lanka safari tour cost?
The cost depends on the park, the length of the safari, the number of people and whether you need transfers. Park entrance fees are charged per person and the jeep per vehicle, so a private jeep is better value for families and groups. Send us your dates for a free, itemised quote.
What does the price of a safari cover?
We break every quote into its parts: the private jeep and tracker, the per-person park fee and any transfer to the park. Nothing is hidden, and you approve the full amount before anything is booked.
What is included in a Sri Lanka safari package?
Our Sri Lanka safari packages include private transport with an English-speaking driver, hotel nights between parks, every private jeep safari and hotel pickups. Park entrance tickets are listed separately in your quote, so you can see exactly what you pay for.
How many days do I need for a Sri Lanka safari package?
Two days is enough for two parks, such as Udawalawe and Yala. Three days lets you add a full day in Yala or a birdwatching safari in Bundala. We can also add safaris to a longer tour of Sri Lanka.
What are my chances of spotting a leopard?
Good, if you choose well. Yala and Wilpattu have the most leopards, the dry months bring them out near waterholes, and a full-day safari doubles your time in the park. Our trackers also share the latest sightings with each other, but leopards are wild cats, so nobody can promise one.
Is Yala National Park closed in September?
Yes, Yala’s main block usually closes for part of September and early October each year. During that time we recommend Udawalawe, Wilpattu or Minneriya instead.
Can children join a safari?
Yes. Safaris are family-friendly and children love them. Udawalawe and Minneriya are great choices for families because elephants are easy to see, and morning or afternoon safaris are a comfortable length for younger children.
We are not staying near a national park. Can we still go on safari?
Of course. Pick one of our safari day trips from Colombo, Negombo or Kandy, or let us build a park into your route with a night nearby. Wherever you are staying in Sri Lanka, we collect you from your hotel.
