This private family surfing holiday in Sri Lanka is made for parents and children who want to learn to surf together. Four nights in Weligama, the island’s best beginner bay, with soft sandy bottoms and gentle rolling waves, then Mirissa, the calm horseshoe bay of Hiriketiya and Hikkaduwa’s sea turtles before you fly home.

Shorter: 5 or 6 days
Short on time? Keep just the surf: three or four nights in Weligama and one in Hiriketiya, with lessons every morning. Ideal as a beach break at the end of a longer trip.
Longer: 10 to 14 days

What is the price for this family surfing holiday?
We send a personalised quote, because the price depends on your hotels, the vehicle, the number of days and your family. Your private car or van, driver and seven nights with breakfast are included; surf lessons and board hire are quoted separately with your itinerary.
Can we make the holiday shorter or longer?
Yes. The 8 days are a starting point: a 5 or 6 day version keeps just the surf days in Weligama and Hiriketiya, and a 10 to 14 day version adds elephants, the Ella train, Sigiriya or a Yala safari.
What age can children start surfing?
Most surf schools teach children from about six years old, with soft boards and an instructor in the water. Younger children can play in the shallows while the rest of the family surfs.
When is the best time for a family surfing holiday in Sri Lanka?
November to April is the surf season on the south coast, with the gentlest waves from December to March. From May to October we move the surf days to Arugam Bay on the east coast.
Do we need any surfing experience?
No. Weligama is one of the best places in Asia to learn, and lessons start on the sand before you go into the water.
