Adam’s Peak travel guide

Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada): Climbing for Sunrise

Adam’s Peak, or Sri Pada, is a 2,243-metre mountain revered by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians alike for the sacred footprint at its summit. Every pilgrimage season, thousands of pilgrims and hikers climb through the night to reach the top in time for one of the most spectacular sunrises in Asia.

The climb from Dalhousie takes around three to four hours up roughly 5,500 illuminated steps. At dawn, the peak casts a perfect triangular shadow across the clouds below. We arrange comfortable accommodation in Dalhousie, an early start and an experienced guide, and recommend combining the hike with the tea country around Hatton and Nuwara Eliya.
